Director’s Spotlight

Art Show

As we prepare for our annual art show the following resource will enable you to further explore the arts with your child. Thank you to Erica Panetta for putting this book list together. It’s well done and certainly on the appropriate level for our little artists.

Extended Day Spotlight

The Preschool’s All-Day program runs from 3:00pm to 5:20pm, Monday through Friday. Our older group, the 3-year old children, Pre-k and Kinder children are a mixed group at this time of day, led by our amazing, Ms. Olivia Romero.

Ms. Olivia holds a B.A. in Preschool Education and Pedagogy and was originally an English teacher to young children in Juarez, where she was born and raised. We were happy to have her join us in 2011 as a language teacher. Ms. Olivia shares her knowledge of the Spanish language with the children, staff and parents of the Preschool.

During the late afternoon, the children are immersed into the Spanish language, from the moment they step into the classroom. The first activity for this group is to share a snack and talk about their day’s experience. This is also the time; Ms. Olivia will introduce what the activity will be for the afternoon and the new Spanish vocabulary connected to this activity.

Ms. Olivia incorporates into her classroom, the Reggio belief that each child has knowledge and interests. She brings activities to the children that are connected to their interests so that learning Spanish is both natural and enjoyable for the children. Painting, finger plays, poetry and cooking are just a few of the children’s favorite late afternoon projects that promote Spanish language learning. Ms. Olivia’s goal is to nurture the Spanish language in the native speakers and motivate the non-native speakers to acquire vocabulary.
